Versions of these can be found in the margins of my old schoolwork and sheet music, going back 35 years. Remember wrapping your textbook in a paper bag? Mine were covered in these. They're regulating and calming; each loop a passing moment - a sort of fidget in # 2 pencil (though these are ink).

In my mind, I've always thought of them as oysters, though as somebody who has never turned down a bouillabaisse (💁🏻), I know they look more like mussels.

My skeletons & torii work may look different from each other but they're truly related.

Skeletons came from a place of struggling to describe strain and how everything felt connected incorrectly, then became a way to look at life down to its most basic structure.

My Torii works continue exploring into structures with a different eye, wondering if we focus on what's in front of us or what's obscured.

Such a fun installation from an @artlifting residential building client, with vinyl installations from my Move series. I am so pleased with how they bring together the space!

I started this series during a #multiplesclerosis flareup, where I felt limited in what my body could do, so I sketched what it would feel like to move so freely. Since then, I've been inspired by my daughter's love of dance, expanding the collection.

I am t i r e d today.

Not because of Oregon's barometric pressure shifts (storm's a comin')(not really) or fatigue from MS/whatever this timeline is/perimenopause/parenting/this timeline and the massive pile of laundry that needs to be done today.

Nope, it's because my brain woke me up after midnight to try to work out recreating Torii I (above, acrylic and ink on wood) as a monotype using paper cutouts for masking the Torii shape. Plus, where did I put that absolutely perfect sheet of plexi?

The first 50 from my #colorsofms series, transforming clinical black-and-white #multiplesclerosis #mri into vibrant and personal abstract ink and thread paintings.

Seven years later, I've just finished my 417th MRI. I've been honored to work with people all over the world living with multiple sclerosis (like me), traumatic brain injury, cancer, stroke and more - and have learned from their friendship and stories along the way.

Reacquainted myself with this piece from last summer while reorganizing the studio...I definitely feel a new piece from this series downloading in my brain lately.

I often imagine what my skeleton looks like once I finally figure out how to arrange my ribs, my right shoulder, my right hip and whatever else is acting up at bedtime. They're not spooky, just structural, and apparently what I need to navigate whatever -gestures all around - this is.

Just look at this recent install shared by a corporate client - thank you so much to the team at @artlifting for seeing this through to the finish line!

Never would I have thought that these simple faces, drawn with my eyes closed, would be featured so elegantly in a space like this.

I had set out to explore what I could create without sight, without fighting unpredictable vision thanks to #MS . I don't know if other artists feel this way too, but it feels weirdly vulnerable to share art that's simple?

Though these are simple in line, they're deeply meaningful to me. To see them out in the world? Whoah.

I have many happy memories of laying out on the dark green carpet we had in the basement of my childhood home, thumbing through the pages of a big Jacques Cousteau book, excited to pepper my dad with fish facts when he got home. NOVA specials, ocean documentaries - these are still my go-to's for making my cells relax.

So much so that my children love to tease me over what the ocean fact of the day might be ("hey girls, come here!" "Is it an octopus, mommmmm???!").

Hopefully I'll learn how to dive someday, but for now, the ocean shows up in my art.

Has it been a tough health year? Incredibly. I'm salty, and a little tired of it, but the ocean made its way into my February MRI extravaganza, and I'm in love with how these three different views came out. ✨

What would change, I wonder, if we had been taught the story of Cassandra, the girl with the ability to tell the future, but who was never believed.

To say this week has wrecked me, is an understatement. As a mom to girls, and as a woman with a history dotted with SA. The trauma is fresh and the despair and anger is too much. I couldn't stop reading the files, and now they won't leave me be.

Sharing this because I'm now in triage mode, and not really sure how to show up beyond where I need to, which also feels utterly impossible.

If you're there too, I see you.
