Frequently Asked Questions
Who can apply?
Anyone who has an MRI scan of their brain and is comfortable sharing their personal experience of living with a health condition, including but not limited to multiple sclerosis, is welcome to apply. This process is meant to be a transformative and healing journey, so if you feel moved to turn your MRI into a meaningful piece of art, I’d love to hear your story. Applications will be open again in Spring.
What does the commission cost?
The cost will be $375 for a 9" x 12", $500 for a 11" x 14", or $1,200 for the 20”x 24”. A deposit is required to secure your spot, with flexible payment plans available.
What are the criteria for selecting applicants?
I prioritize stories that resonate emotionally, highlight diverse experiences, and reflect unique perspectives. Additionally, I consider applicants who already have their MRI scans ready and can commit to collaborating within the one-month timeframe allocated for the commission process. My goal is to create a collection of works that celebrate the human spirit and the many ways we navigate our health journeys.
What does the commission process involve?
If selected, we’ll work together to turn your MRI scan into a one-of-a-kind piece of art. We’ll collaborate on key details, and I’ll guide you through the entire process—from concept to the final artwork.
What do I get at then end of the commission?
The final artwork will be a double-layered ink painting with threading, on archival Legion Yupo paper. Your artwork will ship flat and unframed, and fully insured via Fedex. Along with your tracking number and estimated time of arrival, I will send several digital images of your final artwork as well as photos of it in progress – please feel free to share or use how you’d like (not for the purpose of resale).
Will my artwork be shared on social media if I'm selected?
While I love sharing the stories and progress of my commission work, your privacy and comfort are my top priority. If you are selected, I will always ask for explicit consent before sharing your artwork or personal story on any social media platforms. You are welcome to choose privacy and opt out of sharing altogether—this is your personal journey, and I respect your preferences every step of the way.
What’s the inspiration behind this project?
This work is rooted in honoring the unique narratives and resilience of those living with conditions like multiple sclerosis. Each piece transforms an MRI scan into a celebration of strength, connection, and individuality!
What do I need to apply and for the commission process?
To apply, you'll need to submit a high-quality digital copy of your MRI brain scan (ensure it’s clear and readable). You’ll also provide a brief personal statement explaining why you’re interested in this commission, how your journey with MS has shaped you, and what you hope the artwork will convey.
If selected, you’ll work with me through a collaborative process where I’ll guide you in choosing meaningful elements from your scan to inspire the artwork. You'll need to be available for a few conversations and to share any thoughts or preferences as the commission evolves. Flexibility and open communication are key to creating a piece that truly represents you and your journey.
I don’t have a copy of my MRI. Can I still apply?
Given the time constraints and limited availability for these commissions, it’s essential that you have a copy of your MRI scan to apply. This allows us to begin the process without delay and ensures we can work within the one-month timeframe for the commission.
If you don't have your MRI, you can request a copy from your medical provider. Please contact the healthcare facility where your MRI was done and ask for a digital copy of your scan. Most providers will allow you to download or receive a copy through their patient portal or via email. If you need assistance navigating this process, feel free to reach out to me for guidance!

What happens if I’m not selected?
If your application isn’t chosen, I’ll keep your story on file for future consideration. You’ll also have the opportunity to reapply during the next open submission period. Every story matters, and I deeply value the courage it takes to share yours!
